8 Weeks and there's STILL a baby in there!!!!

Soo...I know I'm slacking a little on this, but I figured I'd post 8 week stuff anyway even though I'm 8 weeks and 4 days...and Sunday will be 9 weeks. :)

Here's what Baby Center has to say about what's been happening this week:

How your baby's growing:

New this week: Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from your baby's hands and feet, his eyelids practically cover his eyes, breathing tubes extend from his throat to the branches of his developing lungs, and his "tail" is just about gone. In his brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. You may be daydreaming about your baby as one sex or the other, but the external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl. Either way, your baby — about the size of a kidney bean — is constantly moving and shifting, though you still can't feel it.
See what's going on in your uterus this week. (Or see what fraternal twins look like in the womb this week.) Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby's development.

How your life's changing

You may notice that your bra is getting more snug. Soon you'll likely need a larger size with better support. Rising levels of hormones cause breast growth and other tissue changes, all in preparation for lactation. Your breasts may continue to grow throughout pregnancy. Don't be surprised if you go up a cup size or two, especially if it's your first baby. Keep this in mind, and allow for room to grow when investing in a new bra.

Feeling fatigued? Hormonal changes — in particular, a dramatic rise in progesterone — may be contributing to your sluggishness. Nausea and vomiting can certainly cost you energy, too. And you may be having trouble getting a good night's sleep at this point, especially if you're uncomfortable or find you need to get up to pee.

We had our 8 1/2 week ultrasound this morning. Here's our little cutie baby! Isn't he or she cute already?!

I've been looking at ultrasounds so much that I knew what everything was, but I know everyone hasn't been obsessing like I have...so I've labeled everything for you!

Our little baby's heart was pumping away at 174 bpm! Old wives tales suggest that means a girl. I tend to agree...but who knows?! We'll find out in 10-12 weeks (oh...so VERY long!!!). Baby is still measuring a day small which isn't a problem but makes me wonder if I ovulated a day later...or maybe the baby implanted a little late? Either way, the doctor wasn't concerned at all.

Dr. M is sending us off 'into the wild' (in his words) and back over to my OB...where I can feel like a 'normal' pregnant lady!

I made a call to the OB today (for some reason they wanted me to leave a message with his nurse...I don't know why?)...so I did. I'm expecting a call back tomorrow hopefully.

I also called hubby's HR department to find out about coverage and what we need to do once the baby is born to make sure he/she gets on our insurance. I was quite disappointed. At my former job, they have you fill out all of the paperwork prior to delivery so that once the baby is born all you have to do is call them with the important information. They don't do ANYTHING in advance here. Kind of disappointing. Oh well...I'm sure it'll all work out just fine!

Here is this weeks update...

Weekly Update:
How far along?  8 weeks 4 days
Total weight gain:  Unknown (I think I've lost about 5 lbs.)
Maternity clothes? No, although I did go out looking for pants because my belly is getting a bit tender. I'm so thankful I don't have to go into work right now. I love sitting at home in my comfy pants all day!! Sadly...I didn't find any pants in town. Looks like it's going to take a trip into the 'big city' for me!
Stretch marks?  I had a HEART ATTACK this week because I now have two small stretch marks VERY low on my belly that were not there last week. What the HECK?!?! UGH...that's all I have to say about that...
Sleep:  Still sleeping pretty well, although I'm back to wearing sports bras again at night. I woke up the other night feeling like someone took a paddle of needles and was stabbing me with it.OUCH!! Wore a sports bra last night and it seemed to help. I'm also having the most vivid dreams that I've ever had in my life...and most of them center around random people I knew in high school and working at Wegmans!?!?! Very strange stuff!
Best moment this week:  This ultrasound this morning! It's SO encouraging to actually be able to see and hear our little baby!!! It's just amazing...and is really helping me get through the not-so-good moments.
Miss Anything?  Having energy. I feel like I'm out of breath and have been running around for days and days! I also miss being able to just decide what to make for dinner and eat it...instead of this...figure out what my body will tolerate garbage. It's annoying!
Movement:  Not that I can feel!
Food cravings:  Bacon?! That's about the only meat that I can stomach. Seems weird to me...but it's OH so yummy!
Anything making you queasy or sick:  Nothing specific at this point. I mostly just have to graze and eat lots of starchy things. Thankfully I can eat salad (yum!) and a variety of veggies. Strawberries and clementines have been particularly delicious! Most animal protein is totally out so I've been trying to come up with vegetarian options, but even those are difficult to manage because if my stomach just decides that it doesn't want it...then I can't eat it...
Gender prediction: I still think it's a girl. Hubby is the lone holdout that it might be a boy! I think he doesn't know what to do with a girl having grown up in a house full of boys! The heartbeat suggests girl...but like I said before, who knows!?! We just have to wait and see. I think girl...but if it's a boy I'm going to be just as thrilled!
Labor Signs:  No...
Symptoms:  Full belly, sore sore sore boobs (oh...and they've grown too), nausea, fatigue
Belly Button in or out?  In.
Wedding rings on or off?  On.
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Happy, but having a little hard time getting past the nausea. We've had several people over and gone out with some people a couple of times this week and it was nice to help get me out of my own head...but it's very exhausing! One more month until the second trimester!!!
Looking forward to: Not worrying about the next thing I'm going to eat. I just want to be able to plan meals and I know that I'll be able to eat them!

That's the update for now...

  1. So here are my unsolicited comments and advice (even though I think I told you I wouldn't offer any) :-)

    1. Lotion up your belly every day...twice a day to keep those stretch marks at bay!!! I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula for stretch marks (http://www.palmers.com/product/detail.php?ID=43&SID=2)

    2. Once you get into the second trimester your energy will pick up

    3.Your appetite will increase, too

    Hmmm...guess that's it, for now!

  2. Thanks for your thoughts, Michele! I've been meaning to get some cocoa butter, but I keep forgetting!!

I'm looking forward to more energy. Someone told us recently that my body is working at the equivalent of running uphill all the time. When I heard that I thought it made TOTAL sense. Just doing normal things is SO exhausting!!

I'm looking forward to enjoying food again, but not to the increased appetite! :) I'll take the good with the bad though!
